A Polymer is chemical compound which is made of a large molecule consisting of repeating chemical units connected to each other by a covalent chemical bond. These chemical units or structural units are known as Monomer and this total chain as Polymer. This word is derived from two Greek words, “poly” meaning many and “meros” meaning part. These polymers could be found in nature or could be synthetic. Plastic, natural rubber, DNA, proteins are some examples of natural and synthetic polymers.

A new field of study has developed regarding study of polymers which are conductor of electricity. Because of this property, these polymers are called metallic polymer in spite of the fact they are not metals. They do not satisfy other characteristics displayed by metals. Generally, the conductivity of metals increases as the temperature goes down. But, for these metallic polymers, that is not the case. But, scientists from Korea and USA have developed a technique which provides many of the typical properties of metal to a polymer polyaniline. This polymer is already used as a component of transistors, light emitting diodes and photo voltaic diodes. It has been found in 1977 that this polymer conducts electricity because of the movement of electron along its carbon chain.

But, these conducting polymers (also known as metallic polymers) do not generally display properties similar to metal, because these free electrons are present in a scattered manner in these polymers. But these researches produced the polymer by doping with sulphonic acid and then synthesizing within oily droplets suspended in water. This process produced this polymer which is more structurally more ordered. Thus, this new polyaniline film is showing both the optical and electrical properties associated with metals.
