Polymer Clay Insets

“What does one make with polymer clay?” Many ornamental and/or useful items may be made from the substance. Beads, pins, buttons and other wearable items come to mind, but boxes, bowls, vases are also possible, though it is recommended that you not use polymer clay in contact with food. Dolls, miniatures, picture frames, light switch plates and masks are some of the other things that can be made. There are techniques to make the clay look like other substances such as semi-precious stones, wood, leather and metal.

Some use ink to stamp the designs, some use the stamp to create an impression in the clay. Others use mica, foil stamping and embossing powders. Projects include jewelry, small book covers, decorative insets for boxes and many other varied projects.

There are many different products which can be made from the polymer clay. Polymer clay is easy to care for, and items created with it are quite sturdy - especially in a bulky state such as large sculpture. However, it should be noted that thin, small items can be fragile and prone to breakage. Also, if exposed to direct sunlight, it will fade somewhat over time.
